SCHOOL
DAYS anime TV series
School
days TV series released 2007 from July to September with 12 episodes with 2
OVA.
The
school days was also released as a game under the several gaming platforms for
PC Windows, PSP, DVD, PS2 with the genre of eroge visual novel for the windows
format.
The
anime series was released to be a slice of life, drama, harem anime series
where one guy gets to hang out with several girls who fell for him for some odd
reason.
Two
OVA were released titled Valentine Days and Magical Heart Kokoro –chan both
released in 2008 consecutively.
A
manga version was also released as well as an audio drama titled Radio School
Days.
Other
release of the series were titled Summer Days, Cross Days and Island Days both
Summer Days and Cross Days were released for the genre of drama, erotica, harem
while the Island Days was released as a tower of defense visual novel all three
release are all games for several gaming consoles.
This
review will cover the TV series School Days which is also one of the most
controversial anime series that I have watched.
The
TV series was written by Makoto Uezo and Directed by keitaro Motonaga.
The
series started as a normal slice of life series that follows three characters.
Makoto
Ito the main male protagonist/antagonist of the series. Main reaction for this guy from the start of the series is that he seems to be a shy guy who could not even ask a girl out for a date let alone confess his feelings for that girl, which is why Sekai his friend helped him out with Kotonoha until that one day that turned everything upside down for these three.
Kotonoha
Katsura one of the two main female characters of the series and the supposed
girlfriend of Makoto Ito. The certified shy girl and a main target for bullies in their school.
Sekai
Saionji the second of the two main female characters and last to complete the
trio main characters of the TV series. Seems to be a tomboy at first until that decisive day.
The
three main characters of the series started off with a smooth flow of Sekai
helping out Makoto getting together and dating with Kotonoha for several
episodes until it all went down a path of no return for both Sekai and Makoto
who later discovered they actually have feelings for each other.
Adding
more spice to this series other characters namely Setsuna Kiyoura, Hikari
Kuroda, Nanami Kanroji, Otome katou whom had their own ways with Makoto in the
series.

So
sum this all up the series is a chain of events where the main male character
who started off as a guy who is supposed to be shy towards his female
schoolmates but later on had his way with them in more ways than one.
This
series is just one of those series that I later questions myself “what the heck
did I just watched?”
For
some reason I was glued to the series from start to end while almost midway the
series run I started questioning myself why am I watching this or what the heck
is going on with this series.
Until
I reached the end of the series where my only reaction was WHAT THE HECK?!!!?
Which
was also a common reaction of almost all those who watched the series during its
run.
One
of the controversies that the series received was when the series final episode
was about to air it was cancelled by the TV Kanagawa due to an incident of a
young girl murdering her father and for some odd coincidence the final episode
contained a similar event. An edited version of the finale was aired ten days
later but one network decided to air an unedited version and aired the original
finale on the same day giving off two versions of the series ending.
When I saw the edited version i was curious why the heavy edit until I heard there was a released unedited version which I hunted down until the day I found it and yes another WHAT HECK WAS I THINKING.
The finale was replaced by airing a compilation of beautiful scenes from Australia where it featured a lot of boats, yes a lot of boats and the finale also included a BOAT

Another
controversy for the series came from the viewer’s themselves in some online
forums I saw months some years back. It is also related to the final scenes of
the final episode which contained very graphic scenes that had some viewers
squirming in their sits while watching and some were surprised and very calm at
what they were seeing at an anime where characters are young teenagers who engaged
themselves in a series of troubled romance and a guy who had his way with all
the girls who showed motives that they want him to have his way with them with
no objections. Not to mention the few scenes towards the ending were really something that will give a very nice reaction to viewers.
This
was one of the series that I had a hard time getting out of my system and up to
now the scenes are glued in my head and I guess I will be remembering those
scenes until the time my memory slowly erases it.
Entirely
the series is well done considering the preteen relationships that were formed
in the series and incidents that some still have questions that only fellow
anime viewers who have seen the series were able to answer in their own
theories, I am still in self-debate whether I will research the answers or
leave it as it is.
I
may recommend this series to some anime viewers but I will tell them I will not
be responsible if the series will leave a mark in your head.
For
the adventurous anime viewers feel free to watch the series but for those only
curious as to what kind of series this is, well this series is one of those old
school quality anime that will certainly leave a mark in your brains and make
sure you are not squeamish.
Highly
recommended for those not weak at heart.
